No Magic Pill

Ok, let’s be honest. How many of us have tried some crazy diet to lose weight? Cabbage soup 5 times a day anyone?
It seems that everyone has the perfect diet. Drop 20 lbs in 30 days. I mean come on, are you confused? I can surely understand if you are. The real secret to dieting is this:

There is NO magic pill!

Most diets will work for one simple reason – they are different from what you are already doing. If you are a meat lover and all of a sudden stop eating steaks every night, you are going to drop pounds. If you “love bread” and go on a no carb diet, well duh, the weight is going to start dropping off. But you have to ask yourself 2 simple questions:

1. Is this diet realistic? Can I really maintain the does and don’ts?
2. Is this diet providing the necessary nutrients needed to live a healthy life?

I’m sure you’ve seen it happen. Someone, maybe that someone is you, went on this awesome diet to lose weight in time for a wedding and dropped 30 pounds. But as soon as Hot Mama went back to “normal” eating habits, the pounds came rolling back and wrapping themselves around that former skinny waist. Then all of a sudden that diet wasn’t all that great after all. The reality is

We need a LIFESTYLE change! Not a diet!

What the heck does that mean? (well of course I have steps for that)
Now, when you follow Land of the Well, you’ll learn tons of tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle.
For now, here are 3 simple steps that you can start doing today:

1. Drink Water – What we are drinking is making us fat. I don’t care if it’s diet soda, ice tea or 100% fruit juice. We are drinking sugar and SUGAR is making us fat. Swap out the sugary stuff and start drinking more water. Don’t stress about getting 8 glasses a day. For every drink you would normally have, make it good ole water.

2. Rest – Whether you can function on 4 hours of sleep or not, many of us need more sleep. Get your butt to bed at a decent hour and aim for at least 7 hours of sleep. Hint: DO NOT sleep next to your cell phone. Afraid you will oversleep, buy an alarm clock. They’ve worked for many years before phones became smart.

3. Have some fun! – That’s right, enjoy yourself! Get out and do something fun.

Eating healthy is a lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy weight is a product of what we eat. Note, I said what we eat and not how many calories we eat (more on that later).
So let’s try this. For the next 2 weeks, let’s start small – drink water, get more rest and let your hair down and have some fun.
How does that sound? Leave your comments below. Oh and did you subscribe over on the right yet?

Cheers!
