Ok so, the idea for this post came from two so called happenings.
1. It cost us close to $50 for my family (2 adults, a 3 year old and a 2 year old) to see Moana at 10:30 in the morning. (treats not included)
2. I overheard my co-worker say she never saw the movie Forrest Gump. (Jenny???)
Thinking of ways to save money and take advantage of some really great movies, I decided to host a classic movie night. (hard to believe Forrest Gump was released over 20 years ago)
Here is what you’ll need:
Movie
Pick a movie that you either love or have always wanted to see. A few suggestions (I could literally give 100 options):
Ladies – The Holiday, Pretty Woman, A Walk to Remember, Beaches, Pride & Prejudice, Fried Green Tomatoes & Slum Dog Millionaire (this one is great for ladies and gents)
Guys – The Matrix, Braveheart, 300, Gladiator, Tombstone
Kids – There are sooo many great ones! E.T., Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Goonies
Guest
This is the easy part. Simply invite some folks over. Two isn’t too few and 50 isn’t too many, as long as space and budget allows.
Details
Pick a day and time, assuming the venue is your place. Friday night and Saturdays are always good b/c most won’t have to rush off to get ready for work the next day.
Make sure you have enough comfortable seating (chairs, big pillows and even beach chairs are cool)
Menu
Keep it simple. You don’t want a fun event to turn into a stressful chore.
Here’s a sample “concession” table:
Fruit Fizzie (fresh fruit syrup with sparkling water)
Chocolate dipped pretzel rods
Veggie Dippers w/ spinach dip
Homemade popcorn
Suggestions to jazz it up using a store bought bag of organic air pooped popcorn
1. add dark chocolate chips, no sugar added raisins and hazelnuts
2. add 1/4 teaspoon curry powder, unsweetened coconut flakes and chopped dried pineapples
3. add grated pecorino cheese, 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano and a couple of dashes of crushed red pepper flakes
blend toppings in a bowl and add popcorn making sure to cover completely
Winter is the perfect time to curls up with some friends and watch your favorite flick.
Best of all it’s way cheaper and good excuse to have some fun.
What’s your favorite movie and snack. Share it with us below.
Jenon, I have done this in the past… I team of sequels with my girlfriends. In between we talk about the movie we just saw, then move onto the next one. We have done: Best Man/ Best Man Holiday…. Meet the Parents/Meet the Fockers…Why did I get Married/Why did I get Married Too … and my favorite classic Pillow Talk/Send Me No Flowers (who doesn’t like a Doris Day/Rock Hudson combo)… I’m telling my age!! LOL
Isn’t it so much fun? And imagine how much $$$$ you saved!!!
